How to Speak so That People Want to Listen
The human voice is a powerful tool that we use on a daily basis, but sometimes people don’t listen or pay attention when you speak. The goal of today is to change some of our habits and implement some exercises and idea to train our voice and get people to listen when we speak.
The most important thing is to understand our speaking habits. There are 7 speaking habits that we may practice that are causing others to not pay attention to us. These 7 habits are gossip, judging, negativity, complaining, excuses, penultimate (exaggeration), and, dogmatism (the confusion of facts with opinions). We can roughly classify all these habits as a negative way of speaking that turns people away from you.
What we should do instead is practice “hail”. Hail stands for honesty, authenticity, integrity, and love. These are all positive way of speaking that not only enriches your way of speaking, but also makes you a better person. Furthermore, we can also improve our way of speaking by understand what our voice is capable of, and getting trained by a professional. So, there are 6 things that we can improve on namely, register, timbre, prosody, pace, pitch, and volume.
Finally, we have some training exercises to warm up our vocals but we will not be covering that here.
