My 3 Skills
I’ve developed the ability to pick up new skills and learn new things quickly from my years of experience playing different video games. Throughout the years, I’ve played video games of many different genres and even games of the same genre have many different game mechanics that requires me to learn new ways to approach and complete the game. As with most games, the goal has always been to complete the game in a fast and timely manner honing the various skills and mechanics that I’ve learned for the game.
The reason being a quick learner is important in the workplace and internship is because at the workplace, everyday is different and depending on the situation, we might require skills that we do not posses and being able to pick up the required skills quickly can prove to be beneficial for the company. Furthermore, as most students entering the workforce without prior work experience in the field or for their internship, being able to learn quickly will leave a good impression towards your employer and provide you with better chance of growth in the future.
Besides that, I’ve also developed my problem solving and management skills from my time playing different board games. One would normally look at board games and think of something like monopoly, but in reality, there are many extremely challenging board games that pit you against your friends or hone your teamwork together to defeat the boss or reach the end-goal. Several of these board games have rule-books that are as comprehensive as a journal article written after many trials and errors, even then there are still many edge cases which requires player to look up the internet to see how the game should be proceeded. Board games that are highly difficult tend to be euro games which require players to manage resource, make complex decision making, and score as much victory points as possible to come out as the victor.
Both problem solving and management skills are highly sought out in companies and are some of the requirements for a successful leader. Showcasing one’s problem solving and management skills tend to leave a favorable impression towards your employers and will make them more likely to retain and train you to a management position.
